Evidence and standards

What we claim, what we will not, and how you can check

A short, checkable statement of what brim says about itself, what it refuses to say, and how unfinished facts are handled while the product is in development.

In short

brim makes one health claim: protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass. That is authorised GB register wording, used verbatim. Everything else on this site is either a description of composition, a description of format, or general education about protein with a link to the source. Anything not yet proven is labelled provisional rather than guessed at.

Why we built it around protein

One sentence: protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass. That is an authorised claim on the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register, it is used here word for word, and it applies where at least 12 percent of the energy value of the food comes from protein. There is a second authorised protein claim about growth of muscle mass. We have chosen not to use it.

That is the whole list. Everything else you will read on this site is either a description of what is in the product, a description of how it behaves in a glass, or general education about protein as a nutrient with a link to the source.

What we will not say

  • That brim prevents, protects against, reverses or treats muscle loss
  • That it affects appetite, cravings, fullness, digestion, nausea or any side effect
  • That it produces weight loss or any treatment outcome
  • That it is medically suitable for you, for any medicine, or for any condition
  • That it is endorsed by a doctor, dietitian, academic or institution, including when we cite published research
  • That any individual will find it easier to tolerate than something else, unless we have evidence for that specific finished product

Citing a paper is not an endorsement by its authors. Where we reference research we are pointing at what the literature says about a nutrient, never implying that a researcher supports our product.

How we handle facts that are not settled yet

brim has not launched yet, and these are the things that land before it does: the finished batch, the independent assay, the named manufacturer and the locked formula. Each one is published here as it arrives. Five numbers come with them: protein per serving, energy per serving, sweetener system, exact pouch size and final price.

Rather than guess at them or quietly leave them off, anything unconfirmed is labelled provisional or shown as not yet evidenced. When each one is settled it is published in full, including if the answer is worse than we hoped.

Testing, and why the certificate matters

Every batch will be assayed by an independent third-party UK laboratory and the certificate published on the product page rather than supplied on request. This is not a courtesy. Independent testing across this category has repeatedly found products containing less protein than the label states, including through amino spiking, where cheap free-form amino acids inflate the nitrogen reading that standard protein testing relies on. The label survives the test and the product does very little.

A supplier's own certificate is a claim about their own product. An independent assay of the batch in your pouch is a verification. We would rather lose a batch than ship one we cannot stand behind.

Reviews, and what will be in them

Every review here will be tied to a verified purchase, published unedited, and left up whether it is five stars or one. Nobody has tried it yet, so there are none. You will not find invented customers, purchased ratings, stock actors presented as buyers or AI-generated people anywhere on this site.

Fake consumer reviews are a banned commercial practice under Schedule 20 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, enforced directly by the CMA since 6 April 2025. Plenty of brands in this category do it anyway. We would rather earn a real 4.2 than buy a fake 4.9.

Health questions always reach a person

Any message mentioning a medication, a symptom, a condition, pregnancy or safety is answered by a human, never by an automated reply. We will not give you individual dietary or medical advice, because we are not qualified to and it would be wrong to pretend otherwise. We will tell you exactly what is in the product so that you or your clinician can make the decision.

This page states our own policy, and a UK food-law specialist reviews it before this store accepts traffic at any scale. If you spot something on this site that overstates what we can support, tell us and we will change it.
